‘Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost and Damned’ announced for Xbox 360

The downloadable expansion pack for Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost and Damned has been announced for Xbox 360 release on Feb. 17, 2009. Rockstar Games released Grand Theft Auto IV in April of 2008, and gamers have been looking forward to expansion packs ever since.

Grand Theft Auto IV is available for both Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, but Microsoft has been trying to gain some ground on Playstation GTA players by creating Xbox 360 exclusive expansion packs. Take Two Interactive was chosen to create two downloadable expansion packs and “The Lost and Damned” is the first of them.

The expansion packs will include new weapons and vehicles (no surprise here) and will come with multi-player modes. Players will not play as Nico Bellic however, but as a new character who apparently runs into Nico throughout the game.

Thank you Rockstar, it's about time we're finally talking release dates for the Grand Theft Auto IV downloadable content you promised ages ago. We won't hold your tardiness against you, though you are rather tardy here. February 17, 2009? That's stringing things out a bit, no?

The first of two episodes, "The Lost and Damned" will be exclusive to Xbox 360 and include a new main character and plot that intersects with GTA IV's central storyline. Rockstar says it'll include new missions "that offer an entirely fresh way to explore Liberty City with new multiplayer modes, weapons and vehicles, and a diverse soundtrack with additional music."

“Making these episodes has enabled us to expand the narrative and the experience of interacting with a game world in really innovative ways,” said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. “We hope fans of the game enjoy the new way of experiencing life in Liberty City contained in this first episode.”

Great if belated news for Xbox 360 owners, but why no love for PlayStation 3 or PC (the PC version ships in just a few weeks on 12/2)? Or is all this ballyhoo just a smokescreen for timed exclusivity?

To help families extend that fun, Activision has released the new game Madagascar 2: Escape from Africa for Xbox 360, one brand-new copy of which we're giving away here.

In Madagascar 2: Escape from Africa for Xbox 360, players can play as all their favorite characters from Madagascar -- Alex, Marty, Gloria, Melman, the crafty penguins, King Julien and the new hippo character Moto Moto -- each of whom has his or her own unique combat moves. Madagascar 2 for Xbox 360 has 12 levels and six tournament mini-games based on scenes from the movie, with unique new environments including the Watering Hole, a free roaming-area that's been expanded for the game, the volcano and the plane wreck. Madagascar 2 also has twice as much multiplayer action as the first game.

Spyro the Dragon is one of the most beloved dragon characters the video game world has seen. To be fair, he's also one of the only dragon characters out there, but in a world filled with poor platforming mascots, Spyro has more personality and charm than most -- especially for kids. Spyro's latest outing, The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon, is reportedly his last, so you'd better believe it's going to be a game Spyro fans will want to pick up.

In The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon, the Dark Master is free from his imprisonment and unleashes his wrath upon the world, determined to bring forth a new age of darkness. As evil spreads over the world like a plague, Spyro must discover abilities beyond that of the elements and unlock the true power of the purple dragon within him if he is to stop the Dark Master and fulfill his destiny.

Players will do this while taking flight anywhere in the Spyro universe, the first time a Spyro game has had an open world like this. In addition, the game supports drop-in/drop-out two-player co-op play, with Cynder being a playable character. And before you think this last game is a quick exit, you should know that it includes the voice talents of Elijah Wood, Gary Oldman and Christina Ricci, among others. In short: this is the Spyro game to end all Spyro games.
